Context & The Problem

The Conversion Box is a major component designed to build trust by showing AutoUncle’s data-like price fairness and dealership reviews right on the car listing. This was a huge undertaking because it meant taking everything AutoUncle offers and merging it into one place: price ratings, car insights, CTAs, and contact options.

Before this, the experience was scattered. Important details that build buyer confidence were spread all over the page, making it hard for users to get a clear picture of the deal. This created a "trust gap", users didn't have all the facts in one view to feel certain about a purchase. By not having a central spot for this info, we were losing leads who just didn't have the confidence to click "contact."

Ideation and Iteration

With a clear vision, we moved straight into high-fidelity mockups and prototypes. I collaborated closely with my project manager, developers, and stakeholders, using user interview feedback to guide our design decisions.

Challenges

One of the challenges was keeping the top section compact yet actionable. We tested everything from static bullet points to interactive sliders. We chose a slider for its flexibility, though some users misread it as an ad, affecting trust.

Another challenge was finding the right level of AutoUncle branding presence through the box on the dealership website.

While there were concerns about it standing out too much and clashing with dealership branding, user research showed the brand presence actually increased perceived trust and dealerships did not mind AutoUncle's increased visual presence.

User Research & Validation

To ensure the Conversion Box effectively bridged the gap between raw data and buyer trust, I led a targeted discovery track.

Beyond the logistics of recruitment and moderation, I focused on identifying exactly where users felt friction when viewing price ratings. Through iterative prototyping, we evolved the UI from a simple data display into a persuasive tool.

By the final round of testing, we had effectively eliminated user misconceptions, ensuring that "transparency" translated directly into "confidence" for the car buyer.

Result

The feature launched with great success. Early feedback from users and sales teams had been very positive. The provided car insights added much needed information about the car and intrigued users to learn more about them.

The dealership review summary was very appreciated as it adds another layer of trust and transparency to the dealership, especially paired with the ability to learn more about the reviews through the provided link.

The Conversion Box shaped up to become a key part of AutoUncle’s dealer offering.
